Yard Waste Update

American Disposal Services has notified the Lakeport Cluster Association via the letter embedded below of significant changes to the way that yard waste will be collected as of March 1, 2017.

American Disposal Services states, "Material placed in plastic bags will be rejected at the local yard waste composting facilities. We’ve been informed that plastic bags of any kind require additional processing and render the finished compost less attractive. Therefore we must modify our current collection policy to avoid additional costs that would be necessary if we accept material in plastic bags."

"We will accept yard waste material in compostable paper yard waste bags or personal containers clearly marked “Yard Debris Material”. These paper yard waste bags can be found at local grocery stores, hardware stores, and through on-line retailers. Beginning March 1, 2017, we will NO longer be accepting yard waste material in PLASTIC bags."

"Please consider mulching your material whenever it is possible."

The Lakeport Board appreciates residents' cooperation in following the guidance from American Disposal Services. You may contact the company Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm at (703) 368-0500 if you have any questions.
